February
So, February is a time to celebrate several items in our nation. We have Black History Month, American Heart Month and Wear Red Day which is February 2nd. All of these celebrations are of great importance!
Black History Month
Black History Month is a time to honor and pay tribute to the generations who have struggled and the successes of the African American people. I am including a link to a website that is hosted by The Library of Congress which has a vast assortment of resources and information. I do recommend you spent some time on this site and to review history as well as current information and opportunities.

American Heart Month
American Heart Month and Wear Red Day focuses on heart health as a whole especially women’s heart health with National Wear Red Day (February 2, 2025). The goal of wearing red to is to save more women’s lives as cardiovascular disease by increasing awareness and raising funding for research Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of women, and African America women are even more so effected by this no matter what their age. This is something we all need to be aware of and do what we can to reduce.
What can we do?
For ourselves:
Start with just moving more.
Walking for 30 minutes a day reduces your risk. The walking does not have to be all at once 10 minutes here or there. If you cannot walk for 10 minutes, it can be less. Starting to do some walking will help to reduce your risk, like always talk to your medical provider before starting any exercise program, even walking to determine what is safe for you.

For others:
Get the information out.
We need to be the ones letting everyone know about this and what we can do to help reduce the risks. We cannot change some of the risk factors, but we can others such as moving more.
Here is a link to the Go Red for Women website for information and resources which you can obtain for your knowledge and to share with others.

So remember as we celebrate the above and other national/international observances in February, look to keep growing in self-care and sharing what you learn with others.
Just start moving and sharing!

The Meaning of Namaste
“Namaste” is a Sanskrit word that acknowledges the inestimable value of each individual. It is often used to greet and honor others. Translation: “As I acknowledge and honor the Spirit within myself, so do I acknowledge and honor the Spirit within you.”
