Walking Day
So, I have been having fun reading over the day of calendars online looking for timely topics to inspire my writing.
Today, April 2nd, is National Walking Day and April 5th is Walk to Work Day which in ND is sometimes much harder than other places. When it takes 30 or more minutes to drive to work, this cannot be walked.
Walking is one of the best ways to get exercise daily. I know this may not seem like a way to exercise as we often think about running or cardio of some sort and lifting weights. These are options, but are more difficult if you have had issues with our body in your lifetime (ankles, knees, back, etc.).

Please look at this information by Harvard Health ~ walking can reduce weight promoting genes, reduce you craving for sweets, decrease risk of developing breast cancer, reduce joint pain and increase your immune system. Think about how important walking is for your health as these or the least known benefits.

So what can we do?
Just start walking today.
We (or at least me) may remember what we were able to do in the past for exercise and also my think (me again) that I can do what I did then. Well, maybe in time or close, but start small and build. If you have not been doing much this winter, don’t overdo it. If exercise if beyond your starting point, then you are not able to walk or do much due to feeling stiff or having pain for up to days. It is best to start small daily and go from there.

You can complete this daily and work toward your goal without set backs or having to take days off. If you have visited with me in the past, this may be familiar to you, one statement I make often is think of exercise like medicine. Complete this daily so you are not going up and down with your physical and mental health benefits. Daily walking allow for consistent release of neurochemical (serotonin and dopamine which I can target with medications). If you walk here and there, think about a yo-yo or a roll coaster, up and down, up in down with the positive neurochemicals. To help maintain more stable mental health, it is best to exercise daily even if just for a short period of time.
