Mental Health Awareness Month!

Welcome to a great month to promote mental health and reduce stigma!!

May has been Mental Health Awareness month since 1949. The goal has been to increase knowledge about mental health and wellness which can also include celebrations related to recovery.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) has developed a weekly download to address different items of mental health. This week is related to children and teen mental health. I shared a link below with a quick video related to symptoms to monitor. There are other videos on the site as well which you can view. I did not want to put too much on the blog.

So what can we do??

The key is to have open and honest communication with your children or those around you. Look for changes in behaviors and listening to what or how they are saying items. If you note something different, ask questions without judgement. We need to be here for everyone especially those younger ones who can quickly get overwhelmed with the world today.

Parents Lead is also a great resource for information to help with interactions for all ages of children if you are not feeling fully comfortable in how to start a conversation or other options.

Here is the site for this and I did bring you to the listen page. There are other options on the website to review as well including activities.

So remember

Pay attention and listen.

Be there and be open to seeking out additional help if there is a need for more than what you can support. We all are here to help out children grow into more confident adults.

It takes a village to raise our children so don’t think you have to do this alone.
